Team Jackie Clement – This team is in their second year and they bring together Junior Ladies Curling experience with a good season of Ladies Curling. They won the 2006 Kelowna Ladies Cashspiel.

Team Kelly Scott – The defending Canadian and World Women’s Curling Champions need no introduction. For 6 seasons they’ve stayed together and worked hard at every aspect of curling to become consistent at a level that is very high. They will be a favorite at any Cashspiel.

Team Ashleigh Clark – Team Clark has added two new players with lots of Ladies Curling experience to the team. Ashleigh and Marilou qualified at the Strauss Crown last season and also lost a tie-breaker in the 2007 Scott Provincials in Kamloops. Heather brings with her a Provincial Mixed Championship in 2006 to a team that will be tough to play against.

Team Jerri-Pat Armstrong – This is a new team for Jerri-Pat Armstrong who is a recognizable name due to her many years of competitive curling. She had returned to the Cashspiel circuit after taking a year off to restructure her team.

Team Sue Vickers – This is a newly formed Seniors team that can compete with anyone. Sue is a National Scott Skip representing BC in 1998 while sisters Eleanor Clovechuk and Liz Folk along with Linda Graeber bring many years of competitive curling that will alone give them a head start on teams.

Team Marla Mallett – They welcome the return of Diane Mclean to the team this year. Team Mallet turned a corner last year where they reached the semi-final in the Grand Slam Event in Abbotsford and followed that with an appearance at the 2007 Scott Provincials in Kamloops. Three of the four members have National Scott Tournament Of Hearts experience.

Team China – Team China finished second at the 2006 Strauss Crown of Curling. They also finished 7th at the World Women’s Curling Championships in Japan in 2007. They are a very consistent team with another year’s experience added to their ever improving game.

Team Shellan Reed – Team Reed has a combination of youth and experience this season. Shellan played in the 2004 Scott in Red Deer and had a decent year last season as a Skip.

Team Shelley MacDonald – This is a young team that has many good years of competitive curling experience. Shelley skipped Team BC at the 2001 STOH and Kristy skipped Team BC at the 2002 STOH. Kristy also represented Saskatchewan at the 1998 STOH. They’ve added Heather Osachoff and Kim Thompson who bring successful competitive experience as well.

Team Roselyn Craig – A very popular team with a great deal of experience and remains very successful with each year. The team has added Debbie Jones-Walker to an already good team. Roselyn, Christine, and Cheryl teamed with Pat Sanders to win the 2006 Strauss Crown of Curling and they also finished fourth at the 2007 Provincials in Kamloops. They like curling here.

Japan

Team Japan – Skipped by Moe Meguro this team has acquired many years of International experience and finished tied for eighth at the 2006 World Curling Championships. The team is coached by noted Curling Coach Fuji Miki and continues to improve.

Team Diane Myrden – This is a second year team that is back-end loaded with experience. Together they won the Esquimalt Cash Spiel last season and remain very competitive in Playdowns.

Team Allison MacInnes – Allison and Karla enter their second year together on the back-end and are coming off a third place finish at the 2007 Provincials. They also qualified last year at the 2006 Strauss Crown of Curling. They’ve added the experience of Janelle Yardley who skipped her own competitive team last year and Amanda Brennan who curled competitively with Brenda Garvey last year.

Team Rachelle Haider – This is a second year team that is stepping up their competitive level of play. Members of this team have extensive success with medals at the BC Winter Games and Juvenile levels. The members combined for appearances at 10 Junior Ladies Provincials, 1 BC ladies Provincials, and 2 Mixed Provincials where two of the members were runners up in 2007.

Team Russia – This is Team Russia’s 3rd appearance at the Strauss Crown of Curling and qualified in last year’s event. They placed 5th at the Olympic Games in Torino and are the current European Champions. They’ve acquired good experience playing the Cashspiel circuit in Canada the last few years.

Team Faye White – This team curls out of the tough Edmonton area and can be seen in many big Cashspiels. They are 2 time champions of the Edmonton Super League, 2006 St. Albert Cashspiel champions, 2004 Edmonton Granite Cashspiel Champions, 2006 Alberta Provincial Competitors, and a semi-finalist at the 2006 Strauss Crown.

Team Kristen Recksiedler – This is a fairly young team filled with National Junior experience and is becoming a tougher team to play every year. Each member of the team has been a Provincial Champion at either the Junior or High School level. Kristen and Julie lost the final of the 2006 Vernon Cashspiel.

Team Sandra Jenkins – Sandra has formed a new team this year. Sandra herself is an Olympic Bronze Medallist as an alternate for Shannon Kliebrink. She has been to 3 National Scott’s representing Alberta and appeared at the 2007 BC Provincials. She’s added Christine Miller at Lead who’s been to 3 Provincials. This is a good young team.

Team Patti Knezevic – Team Knezevic has been together working hard for some time and it’s paying off. They finished 2nd at the 2006 Red Deer Cash Spiel and followed that up with a second place performance at the 2007 Scott Provincials in Kamloops. This is a very good team that is very consistent and a serious Provincial contender.

Team Brenda Garvey – Brenda, Kim, and Lindsay have curled competitively together for a few years now. They’ve now added Lori Olsen who was with Brenda at the Provincials in 2003 where they finished third. Lindsay was a third on the Junior Ladies Team that represented BC in 1997. Brenda is a consistent giant killer and will lead a tough team.

Team Jody Maskiewich – Jody has a new team this year. She’s added Shannon Aleksic at third who is coming off an appearance at the 2007 STOH. She has an experienced front end in second Jacquie Armstrong and Lead Shannon Gallaugher. This is a team that has a good mix of youth and experience within.

Team Darren Moulding – This is a good young team that has had great success at the Junior Level. Third Brock Virtue is a two-time Provincial Junior Champion and a Canadian and World Junior Champion. Skip Darren Moulding is a Provincial Junior Champion. The front end brings years of Provincial finals experience.

Grande Prairie

Team Balderston – A qualifier here last year this team is in its second year together bringing National and World experience to the table. This team should be a strong contender, look for them to be going for the top spot this year.

Team Jason Montgomery – This second year team curls in the Victoria Curling Club Super League. The team has qualified for the Coastal Men’s Championships the past 2 seasons. Jason, Miles, and Will were Provincial Junior Mens Champions in 2003 where they finished fourth at the Nationals. Jason and Will qualified for and lost the 2006/2007 Mixed Provincial Final Game.

Manitoba

Team Madams – Manitoba team with lots of elite level experience. Now trying to establish themselves on the cash circuit this team will be hungry for a great showing at this event.

Team Bert Gretzinger – Bert brings with him long-time front end players Mark Whittle and Dave Mellof. The 3 of them were BC Champions in 1999. They’ve added Kevin Mackenzie to play third. Kevin was a two-time BC Provincial Champion in 2002 and 2003 as second for Pat Ryan. Team Gretzinger qualified at the Vernon Cash spiel this year.

North Vancouver

Team Al Moore – Team Moore reunites long-time rink mates Al Moore and Keith Switzer. Both players have many years of competitive experience as do rink mates Bob Lachance and Randy Chambers. The four players make for a tough lineup. Al is a former champion of the Kamloops cashspiel known then as the Labatt’s Crown of Curling.

Brandon

Team Lyburn – Team Lyburn will be warming up in Medicine Hat before coming to the Strauss Crown of Curling. This team has had success in the past on the Manitoba circuit and will be gunning to make their mark in BC this year.

Coquitlam

Team Jay Wakefield – This is a Junior Team from the Royal City Curling Club in New Westminster. They finished third at the 2007 Junior Provincials and are competing in the Men’s Premium League of Curling where they face some of the top teams in the Lower Mainland.

Victoria

Team Dean Joanisse – Team Joanisse are the current BC Men’s Champion. They are a team that can play any shot at any time. Dean is a former Canadian Junior Champion as is third Mike Wood and second Dean Nantes. Joanisse also won the 2001 BC Men’s Provincials. This is team is among the favorites for the BC title again this season and bring a great deal of experience to the Spiel this year.

Nanaimo

Team Steve Waatainen – This team has had a good run on the Cash spiel circuit. They’re a tough team to play against in any spiel and have knocked off some top ranked teams. This team from Nanaimo qualified at last years Strauss Crown of Curling and are looking to take a step further towards winning the event.

Team Brent Giles – Former BC Men’s Provincial Champion Brent Giles takes over this team that was skipped by Dave Stephenson last season. This mainly second year team had a successful Cash spiel season last year. Third Aron Herrick is a 5-time Provincial competitor losing the final game twice. Look for this team to be knocking on the door of qualifying this weekend.

China

Team Zang - Team China is beginning to make an impact on the International scene and is in the middle of a tour of some of Canada’s toughest events.

Team Bob Ursel – This mainly second year team has added former Canadian and World Junior Champion Kevin Folk to its lineup this year. Team Ursel also has Jim Cotter throwing Skip stones this season. The moves have worked early on as they won the Vernon Cash spiel this year already without losing a game. Jim is a two-time Provincial Junior Champion and Ursel is a Canadian and World Junior Champion himself.

Victoria

Team Wes Craig – Wes Craig has been a successful Cash spiel and Play downs competitor for many years. This second year team was a Provincial Competitor at last years Men’s event in Langley. Wes has often found a way to qualify in Cash spiels and has attended many Provincial play downs in both Men’s and Mixed.

Team Brad Thompson – This young local team is mainly a second year team that is game to play anyone. Brad is a good shot maker as he led the team to the University Play downs in Manitoba last season.

Team Mike Moss – Team Moss from the Coast is a good, experienced team that plays successfully and consistently against the best teams in the Lower Mainland. Third Richard Brower, Second Mike Hanafin, and Lead Rick Sedola have proven tough opponents for anyone and are looking to use their consistency to qualify this weekend.

Maple Ridge

Team Rick Folk – This second year team is loaded with experience with each player having provincial success. Dean Lunn and Grant Dezura are Provincial Junior Champions and Grant and Fred Thomson are Provincial Mixed Champions. Rick Folk is a multiple Provincial Canadian and World Champion. This team finished tied for third at the 2006/2007 Provincials.

Kamloops

Team Brian Gessner – Team Gessner is a new squad this year with local curler Darren Smale playing third. The team has loads of experience and will prove tough to beat. Gessner played third for Greg McAulay in 1996 when they lost the Provincial Men’s Final to Barry McPhee.

Team Deane Horning – Team Horning is in its second year together although they’ve added Lead Brendan Willis as its only change. Willis and TJ Perepolkin are former BC Junior Champions and are BC Men’s Provincial Runner-Ups in 2006. Deane skipped the team that won the B.C. title in 2005 and went on to the Brier in Edmonton. Horning is a two-time BC Men’s Provincial Champion in 2002 and 2003 with Pat Ryan. This is a tough experienced lineup.

Surrey

Team Greg Monkman – Greg is a former Provincial Champion playing third for Brent Giles and lost the final of the 1982 Brier. Greg and Lead Dwayne Uyede added experience to their team this year in third Randie Shen and second Neil Zambik. This is a good lineup that is tough to play against.

New Westminster

Team Bryan Miki – Team Miki is in its first year and are an intense and experienced team. Bryan is a Provincial Junior Champion, a two-time Provincial Men’s Champion, Brier Champion, and a World Men’s Champion. He is also the current BC Mixed Champion along with second Jay Batch. Jay is a multiple BC Mixed Representative. This Team has already won the Cloverdale Cash spiel this year.

Cranbrook

Team Tom Shypitka – This is a first year team that combines some familiar competitive names. Shypitka joins forces with former Provincial, Canadian, and World Junior Champions Jeff Richards and Tyler Orme. This team brings experience and good shot making to the Spiel. Look for them to be a tough team to play against.

New Westminster

Team Greg McAulay – Team McAulay are the current BC Men’s Provincial runner-ups. This team has stuck together and is among the favorites to win the Provincials this year. Greg is a two-time BC Provincial Champion, Brier Champion, and World Champion. This team has already qualified in the Vernon Cash spiel this year losing the semi-final.

China

Team China (Wang) – This team appeared at last year’s Strauss Crown of Curling and qualified before losing in the first round of the playoffs. This ever improving team is gaining more and more experience and is more than holding its own against some of the better teams in North America.

Team Dennis Graber – Dennis Graber leads 3 of the 4 players who won the 2006 BC Provincial Men’s Title. They followed that season up with a third place finish at last year’s Provincial Play downs in Langley. Brian Windsor has stepped away from the game this year and the team has added Blain Black to throw third rocks. A very experienced team who knows how to win. The hometown favorites will be right there come qualifying.

Vernon

Team Dave Merklinger – Team Merklinger is a first year team that combines many years of competitive curling experience. Neil Houston brings years of successful curling from his time with Ed Lukowich. Second Glen Jackson was a member of the 2001 BC Men’s Provincial Champions and Lead Darin Fenton is a former BC Junior Champion and a BC Provincial Men’s Champion in 1998.

New Westminster

Team Sean Geall – Team Geall is in its second year and continues to succeed on the Cash spiel circuit. This is a young yet experienced team. They qualified in the Vernon Cash spiel earlier this season losing its only game to Bob Ursel in the final. This team is added to the tough list of favorites to qualify in this Spiel.

Bothell,Wa.

Team Jason Larway – Team Larway has within its ranks 7 US Men’s Championships, 2 World Championship Bronze Medals, 2 Continental Cup Champions, and a Junior US Championship. They have a great deal of experience and have proven themselves against the best teams.
