If you are looking for a good position as a salesperson of good experience, you can seek the aid of Craigslist and other popular online classifieds. However, like any classified website, it is difficult to judge if the position you are interested in is legitimate or not. Here are some basic tips to differentiate between a scam and a genuine position.
Do not opt for nationwide jobs that treat you like a ‘contract’ employee without even offering you the benefit of a traditional office environment. Instead go in for any local or even a national company which has a local branch in which you are sure of your position.
Make use of the internet to research about the company and the credibility of the job before accepting a position. Any standard search engine or scam-reporting site can go a long way in giving information about scams and legitimate companies. Gather information about unknown companies from the Better Business Bureau before taking any decision.
If no specific details about your salary, the nature of your job, the products you are supposed to sell, and the way you have to capture customers are mentioned in the advertisement, then chances are high that it involves a scam or risky business. In such cases do not pay any training fees or give out your personal information.
Look for jobs that have you working from an office, where you earn a steady salary with or without benefits. Even if it is job with minimum basic pay that gives you commissions per sale, it is better to stick to them as they are less risky jobs that offer financial security.
